Topic: Tele Skis or Cross Country Skis

I plan to do the challenge for the first time this year. I have tele skis and boots (and skins) and also medium weight cross country skis with fish scales and medium weight boots. Is it worth using tele skis or should I just use cross country gear?

Rich: It's going to be in the 60s, so it's hard to think about skiing the CHC but I think medium weight skis w/ edges and fish scalse is all you need; edges are necessary, however, unless your are adept at negotiating downhills on cross country skis (there are people that can do it on skinny skis but they are usually quite skilled).  Lightweight tele gear that is not used for lift service is also the way to go.  I hope this was helpful.  Yuri Bihun

After numerous trips on the Challenge trail, I would agree with Yurij. I have used touring skis with fishscales and waxable, and before that, wood skis. My boots are leather and my suggestion is to focus on your feet. Wear your comfortable boots. I like to feel the ski and the terrain.
Though I actually now own a pair of 3/4 length skins, I don't anticipate using them on the Challenge trail, rather, for those occasions when going up is what is required to come back down.
