Steam Bending
M any of our designs use steam-bent parts. Bending wood with heat and moisture is a technique that has been used for hundreds of years. Musical instruments, snowshoes, and wooden boats of all sizes use bent solid wood. Bent parts have two clear advantages over sawn parts. First, they require smaller blanks; consequently, they are a more efficient use of wood; second, the grain follows the curve, which means the part is stronger. The benefits are aesthetic as well as structural: uninterrupted grain follows curves.
