The challenging grain of character wood™ demands sharp tooling or it will chip and tear, sometimes with unpleasant (or worse) consequences. However, when proper tooling is used, the results are magnificent, clean, crisp colors and shimmering grain. |
One of the first things any woodworker must learn is how to sharpen tools. A woodcarver who apprenticed, during the 1920s, in Germany told me he spent better than half his time sharpening his chisels. There is simply no substitute for sharp tools. This is as true in the machine room as it is at the bench.
